Man in clown mask robbed SLO gas station — while wearing ankle monitor, police say
A San Luis Obispo man was arrested earlier this week after allegedly robbing a gas station while wearing a clown mask.
According to a news release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department, a man disguised with a clown mask entered the Chevron gas station at 3180 Broad St., threatened the clerk with a knife, stole cash from the register and fled down the street early Monday morning.
Using surveillance footage from the Chevron station, San Luis Obispo Police Department officers were able to identify the man as 27-year-old San Luis Obispo resident Steven Gabriel Huerta, who is currently on parole for sexual assault and is required to wear a GPS ankle monitor, according to the release.
GPS data linked Huerta to the Chevron at the time of the robbery, and he was located and arrested later that day on one count of felony robbery and one count of felony parole violation, according to the release.
Huerta was denied bail and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail, where he will remain in custody until the conclusion of his trial, according to the release.
