SWAT responds to SLO apartment after man allegedly stabs partner

A 54-year-old San Luis Obispo resident who allegedly assaulted his partner with a weapon was arrested Sunday after SWAT responded to his home.

According to a San Luis Obispo Police Department news release, officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 900 block of Monterey Street on Friday for a report of a stabbing.

Officers found a 65-year-old woman with a “significant injury to her arm consistent with being struck with a straight-edged object.”

The woman was taken to a local hospital for care, the release said.

Upon further investigation, detectives determined the woman had been injured by her partner, Matthew Dylan Jones, 54, who also lived at the apartment. Jones fled prior to officers’ arrival, the release said.

Then on Saturday, officers tried to contact the woman at the home and “discovered the suspect was back inside the apartment with the victim,” the release said. Jones refused to open the door and was uncooperative during several attempts to reach him by telephone, according to the release.

Because of “the violent nature of the original incident,” the San Luis Obispo Regional SWAT team was activated to respond to the scene, the release said.

Jones was peacefully taken into custody around 8:21 a.m. Sunday. He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon and felony domestic violence, the release said.

He remained in custody as of Sunday afternoon, with bail was set at $50,000, according to the Sheriff’s Office’s Who’s in Custody website.
