SLO County man arrested after SWAT, police surround home

A Grover Beach man was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence Saturday after a standoff with police had law enforcement surrounding a neighborhood home.

According to a Grover Beach Police Department news release, officers responded to a domestic violence situation in the 600 block of North 12th Street on Saturday afternoon.

Officers contacted a female victim at a local hospital and determined a felony domestic violence had occurred, the release said.

Patrol officers then attempted to arrest a male suspect, later identified as Lorenzo Zamora Torres, 34, at his residence.

Torres refused to come to the door, police said. During that investigation, officers determined a small child was inside the home as well.

The SLO Regional SWAT Team was activated “for safety reasons,” the release said.

After SWAT was deployed, “negotiators talked the suspect into a peaceful surrender” and he left the home with the child and was taken into custody without incident.

The child was turned over to a family member and was uninjured, the release said.

Torres was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon and violation of a restraining order, according to the release.
