SLO man faces up to 3 years in prison after stalking ex-girlfriend

A jury found a San Luis Obispo man guilty of felony stalking, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.

After San Luis Obispo resident Jenky Bueno and his partner of a year and a half separated in the spring of 2023, he started to “follow, berate and harass” her, a news release from the District Attorney’s Office said.

“Bueno repeatedly showed up uninvited at her residence and followed her in public places that she frequented day and night causing her to fear for her safety,” the release said.

The woman told Bueno to leave her alone, but he continued to go to her house, call and text her.

The San Luis Obispo County Superior Court issued a domestic relations restraining order in the spring of 2024, which Bueno violated multiple times.

“These violations were reported to law enforcement and in early 2025 criminal charges were filed,” the release said. “A criminal protective order was issued in the criminal case, which Bueno violated as well.”

A jury found Bueno guilty of felony stalking, two misdemeanor counts of violating a domestic relations restraining order and two misdemeanor counts of violating a court order.

He faces up to three years in state prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 12 in Department 5 of San Luis Obispo Superior Court. Judge Timothy Covello will make the decision about the length of the sentence.

“We work hard to stop intimate partner violence in our community and hold abusers accountable because it is deadly serious conduct,” District Attorney Dan Dow said in the news release. “Statistics show that over half of female homicide victims in the U.S. are killed by a current or former male intimate partner. Intervention and accountability through our criminal and victim justice system can save lives.”
