Video shows driver in ski mask ramming truck into SLO bike store
When Trevor Roland woke up on Sunday, he had an alert from the security company at his bike shop, Art’s Cyclery.
At first, he thought it was just wood rats walking by the sensor — something that’s happened before — but then he listened to the voicemail say a serious alarm went off. Roland is one of three owners at the local store.
As it turned out, around 4 a.m. that morning, a silver Chevy Silverado truck rammed into his store, breaking the commercial door, glass windows, the front counter and knocked out the bike shop’s phone, computer and Wi-Fi systems, Roland said.
Video shows the Chevy Silverado truck backing into the building, smashing through the front doors and windows. The drivers were wearing black ski masks, Roland said, and he believes they may have been outside the store earlier that day.
“It seemed like there was some level of premeditated action happening,” he said.
While nothing was stolen, Roland estimates the crime caused around $10,000 in damage.
Roland thanked the community for the support the store has received since the incident, adding that some members of the community even stopped by to help clean the mess.
“The outdoor industry, it’s been kind of struggling for a little bit. I think a lot of bike shops around the country are struggling. So when stuff like this happens, it’s always a little scary,” he said.
