Another group caught with illegally harvested clams in Pismo Beach
Another group of people was caught illegally clamming in Pismo Beach on Friday, following an earlier illicit clam harvest in October.
Of the four individuals cited for illegal clamming activity, only one person had a valid fishing license, the Pismo Beach Police Department posted on Facebook.
Three of the individuals were cited for clamming without a license, and all four were cited for possession of undersized clams, the post said.
“They knowingly violated the regulations,” the post said.
The rules for clamming at Pismo Beach include a maximum of 10 clams per day per person. All must be larger than 4.5 inches wide. Clammers also must have a valid fishing license and an accurate measuring device and can only harvest from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Undersized clams must be reburied immediately.
In total, 93 undersized clams were recovered and reburied by a Pismo Beach police officer.
“We appreciate the vigilance of the Cal Fire personnel who reported the violations,” the post said. “Let’s continue working together to protect our coastal resources by preserving our beaches and marine life.”
