A suspected late-night burglary became a homicide when two victims were stabbed — one of them fatally — on Thursday in Arroyo Grande.

At 11:47 p.m., the Arroyo Grande Police Department responded to a 911 call that reported someone entered a residence in the 600 block of Victoria Way and stabbed both occupants, the agency said in a news release.

When officers entered the residence, they found two adult victims with stab wounds and immediately rendered first aid with Five Cities Fire Department and SLO Ambulance, the release said.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital, the release said, where one succumbed to their injuries.

Officers eventually identified the suspect as 35-year-old Oceano resident Fritz Schnoor.

According to Arroyo Grande Police Chief Dave Culver, Schnoor had some past history with the victims, but the extent of that history is still under investigation.

Schnoor was arrested on suspicion of homicide, attempted homicide and burglary “a short distance from the residence,” the release said. He was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail without bail.

Officers believe Schnoor acted alone, and there was no indication of any additional suspects or threat to public safety, the release said.

Around 1:45 p.m., yellow police tape surrounded a house in the 600 block of Victoria Way. At least two Arroyo Grande Police Department vehicles were at the scene along with a van from the forensics unit of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

A floor-to-ceiling window next to the front door of the house was covered in plywood.

Culver said officers were wrapping up search warrants as of 2 p.m. on Friday.

A home on Victoria Way was closed off by the Arroyo Grande Police Department during an investigtion on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025. Officers were not able to provide more information on the investigation at the scene.
