Going on a SLO hike? Police warn of smashed car windows, thefts at trailheads
If you’re planning to head out to one of San Luis Obispo’s many trails, you’ll want to make sure to secure any valuables you take along.
The San Luis Obispo Police Department is warning residents of a spate of burglaries occurring at local trailheads.
There were two “window smash thefts” at trailheads within the past month, the agency said on social media — one at Cerro San Luis and Fernandez Road trailhead and the other at the Bishop Peak and Patricia trailhead.
Hikers should leave valuables at home or lock them into the trunk of their cars, police said.
“Patrol and ranger staff can’t be everywhere at once to be a deterrent, we need your help in preventing these types of thefts.”
Police posted a sign warning hikers of the recent burglaries at at least one of the trailheads, photos showed.
The Police Department said to call 911 to report suspicious activity.
