A Nipomo man accused of posing as a rideshare driver and sexually assaulting a woman was employed at Cal Poly, a spokesperson for the university confirmed Thursday.
Angel Munoz Quintana, 29, was arrested Wednesday after allegedly sexually assaulting a college-aged woman over the weekend, the San Luis Obispo Police Department said in a news release.
Investigation found he also allegedly held a second college-aged woman, who he did not sexually assault, against her will inside his vehicle, police said.
“I can confirm that the individual arrested, Angel Munoz Quintana, is a Cal Poly employee,” Cal Poly spokesperson Matt Lazier said in an email to The Tribune on Thursday. “However, further questions about the investigation will need to be directed to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.”
It is unclear at this time what department Munoz Quintana worked in.
Both incidents occurred in the neighborhoods adjacent to Cal Poly, according to the release.
He was arrested around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday on suspicion of five felonies: Two counts of kidnapping, one count of false imprisonment, one count of oral copulation by use of force and one count of assault with the intent to commit rape, according to the release.
Munoz Quintana was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail with bail set at $1.2 million, according to the release. He was still in custody as of Thursday morning, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office inmate database.
Investigation into the incident was ongoing, and police said they were “concerned there may be more victims.”
Police encouraged anyone who may have been victimized or with information to contact the Police Department at 805-594-8025.
