Police arrested a man over the weekend on suspicion of injuring a pedestrian in a felony hit-and-run in San Luis Obispo on Friday afternoon.

Just after 1 p.m. on Friday, the San Luis Obispo Police Department received a 911 call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near the 50 block of Chorro Street, the agency said in a news release.

SLO police officers and San Luis Obispo Fire Department first responders arrived on scene to find a 24-year-old female on the ground near some parked vehicles with major but non-life threatening injuries, the release said.

The victim, a resident of San Luis Obispo, told police she was hit by a car and the driver did not stop. She was taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries, the release said.

Through an investigation and with help from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, officers were able to determine the make and model of the suspect vehicle and located it in rural Arroyo Grande on Saturday, the release said.

Officers conducted a traffic stop of the car and arrested Todd Nelson of Arroyo Grande, who was also found to be driving with an invalid license.

Nelson, 61, was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing great bodily injury, driving with a suspended license, and a misdemeanor hit-and-run of a parked car.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Officer Walsh at 805-594-8052.
