Cal Poly police are asking for the public’s help after a student was allegedly assaulted while walking on campus early Saturday morning.

According to a university alert, a male student was walking between the Inyo and Buena Vista dorms at approximately 3 a.m. when he was “physically assaulted by six males.”

Cal Poly spokesperson Matt Lazier told The Tribune the student “did not sustain life-threatening injuries.”

The six males were described as Hispanic, between 18 to 20 years old, and were driving a white four-door sedan, according to the alert.

“Law enforcement is seeking assistance from the public to identify the suspects,” the alert said.

Campus community members were encouraged to report crime information or suspicious activity to the Cal Poly Police Department at 805-756-2281 or email police@calpoly.edu.

In addition to reporting to the Police Department, anyone with information on the incident can also call Crime Stoppers at 805-549-STOP to report information anonymously.

Tips that lead to identification and arrest of a suspect may result in a reward, Lazier said.

Further details on the incident were not immediately available.
