A new TV special investigating the 1996 disappearance and murder of Cal Poly student Kristin Smart is set to air Monday evening.

“People Magazine Investigates,” a television show by People Magazine, spoke with San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson and retired cold case Det. Clint Cole.

It’s the latest true crime show to look into the case.

Smart disappeared Memorial Day Weekend 1996, and Paul Flores, who was also a Cal Poly freshman at the time, was the last person to see her alive.

Flores was convicted of her murder on Oct. 18, 2022, and is currently serving a 25-year-to-life sentence in state prison. He filed an appeal on Oct. 22, claiming his 14th Amendment due process rights were violated multiple times throughout the trial.

“Where Is Kristin Smart?” is scheduled to air Monday evening at 9 p.m. on Investigation Discovery and will be available for streaming on Max.
