Sheriff’s Office identifies pedestrian killed in hit and run on Highway 101 in SLO
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol have released the identity of the pedestrian who was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 101 near San Luis Obispo last week.
Representatives of both agencies identified the man killed Sept. 1 after being struck by multiple cars on Highway 101 as 26-year-old Oxnard resident Cesar Salinas-Ruiz.
According to a Sept. 2 news release from the CHP, Salinas-Ruiz was hit at around 8:33 p.m. by an older model tan possible Toyota Camry heading northbound on Highway 101 south of Madonna Road in the No. 2 lane at unknown speed.
According to the release, preliminary investigation implied Salinas-Ruiz walked into the traffic lane before being struck by the tan vehicle and several others.
The first car that hit Salinas-Ruiz allegedly fled the area and had yet to be found as of Thursday afternoon.
The incident closed the northbound lanes of Highway 101 at Madonna Road, according to a CHP post on X.
Following the crash, multiple law enforcement agencies including the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, San Luis Obispo Police Department, San Luis Obispo City Fire and CHP conducted an investigation on the stretch of the highway between the Madonna Road and Marsh Street ramps.
The CHP was still investigating the incident as a hit-and-run, according to a spokesperson for the CHP.
