Nipomo man arrested after brandishing gun during altercation at SLO County bar, police say

A Nipomo man was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a gun during an altercation at an Atascadero bar early Sunday morning, the Police Department said in a news release.

At about 1:45 a.m., the Atascadero Police Department responded to multiple reports of a fight at the Whiskey and June Bar, according to the release.

The man confronted other people in the bar and brandished a firearm, police said. The man pointed the firearm at them and then fled the area in a vehicle.

Police were able to located the vehicle in the 9800 block of East Front Street and conducted a “high-risk” traffic stop.

The man, identified as Nipomo resident Michael Anthony Garcia, was arrested and transported to San Luis Obispo County jail.

A loaded firearm was found in the vehicle.

Garcia was arrested on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence, carrying a loaded fire arm in a vehicle and making criminal threats.

As of Monday morning, he was no longer listed in custody on the jail’s website.
