Paso Robles Police Department is searching for a suspected DUI driver who fled the scene of a crash Thursday evening, the agency said in a news release.

The crash was reported at 6:43 p.m. in the area of Caballo Place and Calle Chorro in Paso Robles, the agency said. The single-vehicle crash left a black SUV overturned in the roadway.

But by the time officers arrived, police said, no one was inside.

Officers found a woman hiding in the nearby brush who was found to be the passenger of the vehicle “attempting to flee the collision,” the news release said. She told officers the driver was a Hispanic male that she suspected was driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol at the time of the crash.

The passenger was transported to the hospital to treat minor injuries, police said, but the driver fled the scene and is still outstanding at this time.

The department asks anyone with information to call 805-237-6464 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 805-549-STOP (7867).
