A San Luis Obispo County man could serve life in state prison for sexually abusing four children over the course of more than two decades, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office.

A San Luis Obispo jury found Edgar Nolverto Guevara, 43, guilty of 11 counts of child molestation and eight counts of forced sex acts involving minors, the agency said in a news release.

Jurors also found true that Guevara had been convicted of criminal threats in 2001, a strike under California’s Three Strikes Law.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, the child abuse crimes took place in SLO County between 2004 and 2022 and involved four separate victims under the age of 14.

All of those victims spoke at Guevara’s trial in San Luis Obispo Superior Court along with law enforcement officials and other witnesses, according to the release.

Jurors also received evidence that Guevara had been convicted of committing a sex crime against a person under the age of 18 in 2007, the release said.

“For years this defendant used manipulation, force, and fear to sexually assault four children,” San Luis Obispo Deputy District Attorney Danielle Baker said in the release. “Today, he got what he deserved.”

“Each of the young survivors overcame unique challenges to report and testify against their abuser, and we are so grateful for their bravery,” Baker said.

Guevara is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 23 in Superior Court, the release said.

He faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison, according to the release.

The case against Guevara was investigated by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the District Attorney’s Office’s Bureau of Investigation, and prosecuted by Baker and Deputy District Attorney Bianca Aguayo, the release said.
