SLO County chase suspect still at large after a second night of searching

A elusive suspect who led officers on a high-speed chase Tuesday night in northern San Luis Obispo County remains at large, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday.

That was after law enforcement spent all day Wednesday and overnight searching for the man in the Salinas Riverbed near San Miguel, CHP Officer Patrick Seebart said in a news release.

“Our best guess is that he has found a really good hole to hide in down in the riverbed,” he said.

The person is believed to be the driver of a car that fled a traffic stop Tuesday night and then led CHP officers on a high-speed pursuit in and out of Paso Robles on Highway 101, before crashing and then fleeing the scene at the Bradley Rest Stop.

A passenger in the vehicle was apprehended, but the driver got away.

“Officers will continue to patrol the area looking for him, but until we have another sighting or report, the search has been scaled back,” Seebart said.

The CHP, the SLO County Sheriff’s Office, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, K9 units, CHP’s H-70 helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft all have helped in the search for the suspect, according to Seebart.
