SLO County stabbing suspect found dead in Kern County 2 days later
A man suspected of stabbing a person Saturday morning in Grover Beach was found dead two days later in Kern County, according to a news release from the Grover Beach Police Department.
Robert Dean Poirier, a 55-year-old Grover Beach resident, was identified as the suspect involved in the Saturday stabbing, which occurred in the 1700 block of Ramona Avenue.
On Monday, Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials informed Grover Beach detectives that Poirier was found dead in their jurisdiction, the release said.
No signs of foul play were found in the Kern County Sheriff’s Office investigation, the release said.
The stabbing occurred during an altercation on Saturday morning.
Grover Beach police responded at 11:56 a.m. to reports of a fight in progress involving the occupants of two vehicles on Ramona Avenue, but by the time they had arrived, the parties had left the scene, witnesses said.
Shortly after, officers received information about an assault victim near the intersection of 16th Street and Grand Avenue, the release said.
The victim, an adult male suffering from multiple stab wounds to the torso, was transported to a local hospital, where he was stabilized, the release said.
Since the stabbing, detectives have been following up on leads and evidence, including the suspect’s van, the release said.
Detectives identified Poirier as the suspect and determined he fled to Kern County after the stabbing. They notifyied the Kern County Sheriff’s Office soon after, the release said.
