More ATM card skimmers found at SLO bank, police say
Two additional card skimmers were found Wednesday at a Bank of America branch in San Luis Obispo, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.
A customer found the skimmers on card readers at two ATMs at the Bank of America location at 1102 Higuera St. in San Luis Obispo, the agency told The Tribune.
That brings the total to three skimmers at the bank, after a bank employee found a skimmer on an ATM on Sunday.
“Skimmer technology is evolving. Skimmers were externally mounted on card readers and the internally placed versions are out there,” police said in a Monday news release. “Please stay vigilant: Report fraudulent charges as soon as possible if you are a victim of skimming.”
At least one fraud report has been filed, the agency said Monday.
According to police, the customer who found the additional skimmers reported them to the bank and the agency.
“We are very grateful that customers were quick to report fraud when they received alerts from the bank, and BofA has been helpful in the collection of evidence,” Christine Wallace, spokesperson for the police department, told The Tribune.
Wallace said the investigation is active.
