A man was severely injured in a crash Monday afternoon on Highway 101 in San Miguel, authorities said.
The silver SUV was driving south at a “high rate of speed” when the crash occurred, Sgt. Steve Warzee said. The driver lost control of his vehicle, crossed over the median and careened off the road onto the east shoulder.
The vehicle tumbled down an embankment and landed on its roof behind Gallo Winery near the 10th Street exit about 1:30 p.m., Warzee said.
No other vehicles were involved. The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office, CHP and a helicopter responded to the crash scene, according to radio traffic.
The driver’s name, age and city of residence had not yet been released.
