CHP identifies teen bicyclist killed in Nipomo hit-and-run
The bicyclist who was killed in a recent hit-and-run collision in Nipomo was a local teenager, the California Highway Patrol said.
On Tuesday, the CHP identified the cyclist who died in the May 12 crash as Joshua Thomas Edward Mcfarland, 19, of Nipomo.
Mcfarland was riding his electric bicycle southbound on Los Berros Road at around 11:20 p.m. May 12 when a black Jeep Cherokee driven by 41-year-old Dylan Lammers hit his bike’s back tire, the CHP said.
Mcfarland traveled south before coming to a stop on the right shoulder, the agency said. He was found dead by San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
Lammers, also from Nipomo, left the scene but later called the CHP to report the collision, the agency said.
He was arrested at his home.
Lammers was no longer in custody at the SLO County Jail as of noon Friday, according to jail records.
CHP spokesman Miguel Alvarez told the Tribune in an email that Lammers is charged with felony hit-and-run with additional charges pending.
The CHP asks anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call 805-594-8700.
