Morro Bay police arrest 2 people on suspicion of credit card fraud, identity theft
Morro Bay police officers arrested two people Wednesday on suspicion of identify theft and fraud after allegedly finding them with cash, stolen property and multiple credit cards.
Police officers received a report that a man in a silver Mercedes in the Motel 6 parking lot on Atascadero Road had a rifle Wednesday around 12:30 p.m, according to a Morro Bay Police Department news release.
When officers arrived, they found San Francisco residents Steven Banfi, 32, and Danielle Quijada, 28, in the vehicle, the release said.
Banfi was on probation and was “open to search as a condition of his probation,” the release said.
Brass knuckles, a replica rifle and multiple credit cards with other people’s names were found in the vehicle, according to the release.
Police also allegedly found receipts and stolen property associated with the credit cards, along with cash adding up to $2,950.
Based off the receipts, there was about $11,888.96 in losses, police said in the release.
Banfi and Quijada were arrested and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on multiple felony identity theft and felony credit card fraud charges.
They were released from jail within 24 hours with zero bail as a result of San Luis Obispo County Superior Court’s updated Emergency Bail Schedule due to COVID-19, according to the release.
This is an ongoing investigation. Police are asking anyone with information to call the Morro Bay Police Department at 805-772-6225 or San Luis Obispo County Crime Stoppers at 805-549-7867.
