Escaped state prison inmate captured in SLO County

Law enforcement officers on Friday afternoon captured an escaped Central Coast state prison inmate in Nipomo.

Edgar Delgado, 37, escaped from Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad on Tuesday, according to a San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office news release.

On Thursday, a county sheriff’s deputy on patrol in Los Osos observed a stolen vehicle parked in the 2000 block of Turri Road that was associated with Delgado.

The vehicle was unoccupied at the time, and deputies conducted a search but were unable to find Delgado.

Deputies and officers from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Fugitive Apprehension Team began a joint investigation to locate Delgado.

On Friday, CDCR officers and the county Gang Task Force were conducting surveillance about 1:57 p.m. in a restaurant parking lot in the 500 block of Tefft Street when they saw a subject matching Delgado’s description.

Investigators approached the man and identified him as Delgado. He was taken into custody without incident by CDCR officers and returned to state prison.

CDCR and Gang Task Force investigators also found there were tools taken from the stolen vehicle. They were able to recover the stolen tools at a Los Osos residence to return them to the owner.
