Update: SLO County sheriff looking for truck, video in Paso Robles shooting investigation

Updated, 1:20 p.m.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the community’s help in locating a truck and providing video surveillance of the active shooting in Paso Robles that began June 10 when a deputy was shot in the face and a homeless man was found dead.

Mason James Lira, a 26-year-old homeless man who had a history of mental illness, according to his father, was the sole suspect in the active shooter incident.

Lira led law enforcement on a two-day manhunt following shots fired at the Paso Robles Police Department and at Deputy Nicholas Dreyfus. The search ended in a shootout in Templeton on the afternoon of June 11, when three more officers were shot and Lira was killed by law enforcement.

Sheriff’s detectives are searching for the driver of a white Dodge Ram truck that was seen leaving the area of 10th Street and Riverside Avenue in Paso Robles at 4:20 a.m. June 10, about one minute before the suspect began shooting at the police department, according to the release.

The truck is described as a white Dodge Ram quad cap with a silver tool box in the bed, according to the release. The truck appears to have chrome rims and the license plate was unreadable, the release said.
