Atascadero police arrest man out on bail for liquor store robbery — for another robbery
Atascadero police arrested a man attempting to get medication with a fake name just a few weeks after he was arrested for allegedly robbing a local liquor store.
According to a news release, police responded to Aegis Medical Systems on Morro Road on Thursday afternoon for a report of a suspicious subject. Employees at that business reported that a man had entered the business and attempted to get medication by providing a fake name.
According to the release, at the same time police were arriving on scene, the building’s alarm company reported a robbery in progress at the same location.
Officers located 21-year-old Kyle Walls of Atascadero as he was exiting the business, police said. Officers took him into custody without incident.
According to police, Walls tried to get medication from the business using a fake name, but when confronted about the fake name, produced a note stating that it was a robbery.
Walls had recently been arrested for allegedly robbing Chalk Mountain Liquor, also in Atascadero, on May 6. According to the release, during that incident Walls slashed at an employee with a knife when confronted.
He was booked into San Luis Obispo County jail, but posted bail and was subsequently released from custody, according to the release.
On Thursday, Walls was taken into custody and booked into the jail on charges of robbery and committing a felony while out on bail. Because of his prior charges, Walls’ bail was increased from $50,000 to $100,000.
The incident is still under investigation, according to the release.
