Morro Bay police searching for 2 burglars tied to string of car break-ins

The Morro Bay Police Department are searching for two suspects in a string of car burglaries that took place in north Morro Bay on Sunday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Nutmeg Avenue at 7:06 a.m. Sunday to investigate a suspicious person checking car doors and looking into vehicles, according to a Morro Bay Police Department news release.

The police department reportedly received its first call about a vehicle burglary, involving a vehicle on the 2500 block of Laurel Avenue, at 7:59 a.m.

Additional vehicle burglaries were reported on the north end of town, at the 1100 block of Balboa Street and the 900 block of Marina Street, police said.

According to police, purses and wallets were stolen from vehicles along with other items. Several victims reported their credit cards being used at local businesses in Morro Bay and in San Luis Obispo, the release said.

Police are searching for two men.

One is described as a white man, age 40 to 50, who stands between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10 with a medium build and facial hair, and was wearing a black sweatshirt and black hat. He used stolen credit cards at Albertsons and Rite Aid in Morro Bay and was seen leaving in a white Chevrolet pickup, police said.

The other person police are searching for is described as a white man, age 25 to 35, who stands between 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-9 and was seen wearing a gray North Face sweatshirt. The second suspect is bald and has a goatee, according to Morro Bay police.

Police say the man was spotted using stolen credit cards at the San Luis Obispo Target and seen leaving in a black Chrysler 300.

The investigation is ongoing.
