San Luis Obispo police arrest man who allegedly grabbed 8-year-old girl near park

San Luis Obispo police arrested a man who allegedly attempted to kidnap an eight-year-old girl near a city park on Sunday.

According to a news release, the San Luis Obispo Police Department received a 911 call around 3:45 p.m. Sunday regarding a man who grabbed a young girl.

Police say the suspect attempted to grab the girl’s arm while she was walking home from the area of Meadow Park.

The man allegedly grabbed the girl in what she described as a “hard grip,” but she was able to pull away and run home to her parents who then called the police, according to the release.

The child provided a detailed description of the person who grabbed her, police said.

An officer patrolling the area identified a man fitting that description during his search, according to police.

When officers attempted to contact him, the man ran, the agency said.

Police said the man was caught after a short foot pursuit, and identified as 28-year-old David Castellon of San Luis Obispo.

According to the release, Castellon was interviewed by investigators, and during that interview, investigators “obtained statements linking Castellon to the alleged crime.”

Castellon was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on a $50,000 bail. He didn’t not appear to be in jail custody as of Monday afternoon.
