Who made homophobic robocalls to SLO County voters? DA seeks help in finding source
The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office is investigating an offensive robocall that went out to the cell phones of voters in the District 3 county supervisor race claiming to be a Ku Klux Klan-affiliated group supporting a candidate.
On Wednesday, the county agency asked via Twitter for the public’s assistance in identifying the source of the call, which begins with a woman saying, “Back in the day, the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan awarded my granddaddy the Hero’s Cross.”
The recording claims to be paid for by “the Daughters of the Hero’s Cross KKK,” which does not appear to be a legitimate organization, and says it supports the candidacy of Supervisor Adam Hill, who is in a race against Republican challenger Stacy Korsgaden.
The tweet asks that “anyone with information about the source of yesterday’s District 3 robocall, please contact our chief of investigations at 805-781-5800.”
District Attorney’s Office chief investigator Terry O’Farrell confirmed to The Tribune on Wednesday morning that the agency is looking into the source of the calls.
O’Farrell said that Korsgaden personally made a formal request that the agency investigate the incident. He added that his office also reached out to Hill, whose assistant said he welcomed the investigation.
