Sex offender arrested for prowling Grover Beach homes. Police are looking for videos of him
Grover Beach police arrested a man allegedly caught prowling around a residential neighborhood early Friday morning.
Now they’re looking for security camera footage of the suspect, who’s a registered sex offender.
Officers responded about 6:40 a.m. Friday to reports of a prowler in the 1100 block of Refugio Court, according to a Grover Beach Police Department Facebook post.
A resident saw a man in his neighbor’s yard and called the police, the post said.
Officers tracked down Richard Eugene Parson, 43, of San Luis Obispo, and arrested him on suspicion of prowling and providing a false identity to a police officer, police said.
Parson was no longer listed as in custody at San Luis Obispo County Jail as of Friday evening.
Parson is a registered sex offender who was convicted in 2002 of committing lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, according to the California Megan’s Law website.
In 2015, Parson pleaded no contest to failing to register as a sex offender within five days of his birthday and prowling, according to court records. He was sentenced to 16 months in state prison.
Since Friday’s arrest, investigators have compiled videos from several home surveillance cameras allegedly showing Parson prowling and looking through windows during early morning hours throughout the Rose Court, La Selva Avenue and Refugio Court neighborhoods.
Police encourage residents to check their surveillance cameras from Thursday night to see if they have any video footage of a prowler near their homes.
Anyone who finds video footage of a prowler is encouraged to call the Grover Beach Police Department dispatch center at 805-473-4511.
