Officers respond to call for car trouble on Hwy. 1 and find man choking a woman, CHP says
A San Diego County man was arrested early Friday near San Simeon after CHP officers allegedly found him choking a female passenger in his pickup truck.
Offiers responded to the Elephant Seal Lookout near Highway 1 about 4:09 a.m. after a male Toyota Tacoma driver used a call box to request “immediate assistance” for mechanical problems, according to a CHP news release.
Two officers from the Templeton CHP office arrived on scene to find the pickup truck parked partially off the road and partially in the southbound lane.
As they approached the truck, they found Cory Lowell Dollar, 31, of Santee allegedly straddling a woman in the passenger seat and choking her.
The officers unsuccessfully tried to open the truck doors and get Dollar’s attention. They eventually shattered the driver’s-side window and deployed a Taser to subdue Dollar and stop the attack.
The officers arrested Dollar, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The woman was responsive but had visible ligature marks around her neck, stab wounds on her chest and large contusions on her head. She also was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Detectives from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office later responded and took over the criminal investigation of the incident.
After Dollar was medically cleared, detectives took him into custody on suspicion of attempted murder. He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail, where he’s being held in lieu of $500,000.
