3 end up in jail after shoplifting attempt in Morro Bay

Morro Bay police arrested three people after one was caught allegedly shoplifting from Miner’s Ace Hardware.

According to a news release, police were called to the store at 510 Atascadero Road on Saturday for a theft in progress.

A store employee had observed a suspect grab merchandise and leave the store without paying. The employee contacted the Morro Bay Police Department and provided updated information as the suspect fled the area.

Officers arriving on scene located Joaquin Martin Ferraiz III, 37, of Arroyo Grande as he attempted to drive away. When they stopped Ferraiz, officers learned the vehicle had been reported stolen out of San Luis Obispo.

Ferraiz was arrested without incident, and additional stolen property from the business was located inside his vehicle, as well as property believed to be stolen from the Lompoc area, further investigation found.

Ferraiz was booked into SLO County Jail on charges of driving a stolen vehicle, petty theft, being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

During the investigation, two additional subjects who were traveling with Ferraiz were located near the business. Sean Reinhardt, 37, of Creston, and Monica Menchaca, 37, of Nipomo, were found to be under the influence of a controlled narcotic substance.

Both Reinhardt and Menchaca were arrested without incident and booked into SLO County Jail on the charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
