Sharp-eyed SLO County FedEx driver helps police catch a suspected package thief
A FedEx driver helped Morro Bay police catch an alleged thief Wednesday after suspecting the man of stealing a package the driver had recently delivered.
The driver called police after he noticed a “suspicious vehicle” following his delivery truck, according to a Morro Bay Police Department news release.
The FedEx driver said the vehicle resembled one he’d seen trailing him on Monday, and he suspected the vehicle’s driver had stolen a package after he continued on his route.
Police located the vehicle using a description and license plate number provided by the delivery driver, and officers found property in the vehicle that had been stolen from a Morro Bay residence.
Officers contacted the suspect, who returned more stolen property from inside his residence.
After obtaining a search warrant for the suspect’s vehicle and residence, police found evidence of stolen property from at least two other Morro Bay homes.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property and was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail. The Tribune typically does not identify suspects arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor-level crimes.
If you have any information about this case or believe you may have had a package stolen, contact the Morro Bay Police Department at 805-772-6225.
