Former Cuesta student arrested after making campus bomb threat, police say
A former Cuesta College student was arrested Tuesday after police say he threatened school staff and said he would bring a bomb to campus.
Just after 11 a.m., police were called to Cuesta’s North County campus in Paso Robles after staff said a man was making threatening statements, according to Cuesta College Police Chief Bryan Millard.
The man, Daniel William Chaides, 45, was arrested on suspicion of threatening school officials and making criminal threats, Millard said. He added that Chaides is a former student and is not currently enrolled at the school.
He was taken to the San Luis Obispo County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, according to jail records.
“We are still working the investigation, based on the gravity of the statements made,” Millard said.
There is no current threat to Cuesta students, Millard said, though he added campus police will take steps to ensure students’ safety.
