SLO police ask for help finding driver who hit 3-year-old child

San Luis Obispo police are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver of a truck that hit a 3-year-old child and left the scene on Friday.

The incident happened about 4:40 p.m. in the area of Mill Street and Park Street, when officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run, according to a news release. When they arrived, they found a 3-year-old victim, who was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to police, the child walked into the street and was hit by an early- to mid-1990s white Ford F-250 extended cab truck. The driver didn’t slow down and fled westbound on Mill Street, police said. There were several items related to construction in the bed of the truck, and it also possibly had a lumber rack, police said.

There was a green and black sign on the passenger side door.

Police describe the driver and sole occupant of the truck as a Hispanic man in his 20s wearing a green hooded sweatshirt.

The child is expected to make a full recovery, police said.

Authorities ask anyone with information to call the San Luis Obispo Police Department at 805-781-7312.
