A Shandon man will spend five years in state prison after he pleaded no contest to charges stemming from a fatal rollover on Creston Road in July.
Eusebio Ruiz-Luis, 32, entered his revised pleas Monday to charges of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence and driving under the influence. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 11.
On the afternoon of July 23, Ruiz-Luis was driving on Creston Road, north of Highway 41, when he made “an unsafe turning movement,” according to California Highway Patrol. His vehicle rolled several times and the front-seat passenger, 28-year-old Artemio V. Pacheco of Shandon, died from injuries he suffered in the crash.
Ruiz-Luis was driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.1 or greater, according to charges filed against him.
Ruiz-Luis remains in custody while he awaits sentencing and is being held on $100,000 bail.
