First day of school just around the corner in San Miguel

The San Miguel School Board meets Thursday night at the Lillian Larsen School Library, 1601 L St. Open session begins at 6:30 p.m.

The first day of the 2016-17 school year, Aug. 17, starts at 8:10 a.m. and is a minimum day.

Chamber meets

The annual meeting of the San Miguel Chamber of Commerce was held on Aug. 2, hosted by San Miguel Seniors at the Senior Center.

Elections were held with these officers taking their seats: President Kelly Work, Chairman Mike Sanders, Public Relations Director Sergio Morelli, Liaison Director Kimberley Morelli, and President Emeritus Miki Landseadel-Sanders. Membership Director Kathleen Carpenter was unable to attend. Landseadel-Sanders will be acting secretary.

The chamber is preparing a display for the welcoming kiosk in Father Reginald Park and an informational brochure of San Miguel businesses and organizations. Its fall and winter events calendar was discussed. The next meeting will be held Sept. 6 at a location to be announced. For information and to join the chamber, call Mike Sanders at 712-9120.
