Friday, May 13, is a lucky day — the Russians are coming!

The St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble, a renowned men’s quartet from Russia, returns to perform at Mission San Miguel at 7 p.m.

“Masterpieces of Russian Choral Music” will feature Russian Orthodox liturgical hymns and the classical romance selections of composers Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky and Glinka.

A goodwill offering of $15 will be greatly appreciated. CDs and Russian handicrafts will be available for purchase. For information, call Olga Howe at 805-543-2261 or olgahowe@gmail.com.

Taco dinner for $10

On Saturday at the Senior Center, 601 12th St. (east side of the tracks off of N Street), San Miguel seniors are holding a taco feed from 4 to 6 p.m. Two tacos, refried beans, salad and dessert are $10. Water and sodas are $1. Proceeds benefit upkeep and repair of the center.

Library gets a grant

The San Miguel Library recently received a $3,500 National Science Foundation grant from the Califa Library Group to provide science-based programs for adults. The programs explore how science, technology, engineering, arts and math are used by everyone in their daily lives.

Participants read a pre-selected book, then meet at the library to watch and discuss a video that highlights these connections.

Programs will start in the fall. The library at 254 13th St. Hours are Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit your local library and browse through books, CDs and other items to check out.

Go to www.discoversanmiguel.com for information on San Miguel events, businesses, organizations, churches and opportunities to volunteer. A history section features stories and pictures from early-day families, the town and area.
