Saturday is Sagebrush Days in San Miguel! Join us for a day of fun, rain or shine.
The Peddlers’ Faire will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and circles around so you can see both sides of the horses. Following the parade, a reception will be held at the Coffee Station for guests of honor Frank Mecham and Vicki Fogleman.
An apple pie contest will be held at the Coffee Station from noon to 1 p.m. The Chamber of Commerce will award a first prize of $75 and second prize of $25 for the best pies. An application is available online at Discover San Miguel.
Take a chance to win chicken poop bingo. The Lions Club will barbecue, and businesses will be open.

That afternoon the San Miguel Library will feature readings of Cowboy Poetry. The Library is on 13th Street at the top of the hill next to the ball field. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a supervisory Candidates Forum will be hosted by the League of Women Voters at Lillian Larsen School, 1601 L St., in the cafeteria.
Moderator will be Dick Mason of KVEC. Candidates John Hamon, Dale Gustin, Steve Martin and John Peschong are all expected to attend. For information, call the Chamber of Commerce, 975-6996.
About the parrot
The large green parrot mounted on the Awalt Co. fence memorializes the Green Parrot restaurant that stood there through most of the 20th Century. A plaque is being prepared to tell the story as part of the History Tour.
