San Miguel school board considers superintendent contract

The San Miguel Joint Union School District board of trustees meets Thursday evening at Cappy Culver School, 11011 Heritage Loop Road. Open session begins at 6:30 p.m. Action items on the agenda include consideration and review of an employment agreement that has been extended to superintendent candidate Traci Welch of the Hilmar School District. The agenda is available on the district website.

Advisory council seats available

The San Miguel Advisory Council is seeking candidates to fill four seats open on the board, which advises the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors on community issues. Members must be registered voters and reside within area boundaries. Applications are available on Discover San Miguel, at the next two Advisory Council meetings (7 p.m. April 27 and May 25 at the community center) and at the San Miguel Mercantile. Deadline for applications is May 25. For further information call Mike Sanders at 712-9120. Elections will be held on June 15 at the Advisory Council meeting (a week early) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Research library grand opening

The grand opening of the Rios-Caledonia Adobe Research Library will be held Sunday, May 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. It is built around a collection of books, documents and photographs bequeathed to Friends of the Adobes by historian and teacher Wally Ohles. Spring hours are Fridays from 12:30 to 3 p.m. or by appointment. Summer hours will be announced.

Thanks go to the seven volunteers and the volunteer firefighters last Saturday who spent the morning gardening and “town-cleaning.”

Senior potluck

San Miguel Seniors are hosting their monthly potluck at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Senior Center on East 12th Street. Everyone is welcome to bring a dish and share the meal.
