Mission San Miguel plans going-away Mass for departing pastor

On Sunday at Mission San Miguel, the noon Mass will be a bilingual farewell to departing Pastor Pedro Umana, followed by a potluck luncheon in the Parish Hall.

Umana, the last remaining Franciscan who has served as the pastor at Mission San Miguel for the last few years, is moving to Texas to be closer to his father, who is in poor health.

On Nov. 12 at noon the Final Franciscan Mass and Celebration will be held as the parish transitions to the Diocese of Monterey and welcomes new pastor Rev. Eleazar Diaz Gaytan.

Franciscans priests and brothers who served the Mission in the past have been invited. A reception will follow.

Peschong in town

Supervisor John Peschong will hold office hours from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the Parish Hall behind Mission San Miguel.

Dinner and auction

On Saturday from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. the Pleasant Valley Foundation is sponsoring a dinner and auction at Rolling Hills Ranch barn, 7275 Cross Canyons Road east of San Miguel.

Donation is $65 per person and $120 for two. Funds go towards preservation of the old 1908 schoolhouse. RSVP to Connie Zamora at 536-0809.

Chamber of Commerce

On Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. the Chamber of Commerce will hold a mixer at Father Reginald Park, where they are placing an informational community map on the kiosk.

The next meeting of the Holiday Lights Parade Committee will be Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. at the San Miguel Mercantile on Mission Street. The event is scheduled for Dec. 16.

Tribute to military

Lillian Larsen School, 1601 L Street, will honor both retired and active members of the military on Thursday, Nov. 9. The ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. in the gymnasium, followed by refreshments. RSVP to 467-3216, ext. 201, by Nov. 6.

Also, a new mural is on display at the school. It was created by Mrs. Heilmann’s kindergarten class under the guidance of artist Steve Kalar.

Bingo and potluck

Due to the holidays, the San Miguel Seniors will host only one community bingo this month, Nov. 10 at the Senior Center, 601 12th St. (east).

A community potluck will be held on Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Senior Center.

Season of Hope

Season of Hope drive containers have been placed at the Community Services District office.
