Wines, Pines & Felines raises money for HART at Robin’s

Three Sopranos and a Piano will perform at this year’s Wines, Pines & Felines.

The beautiful garden at Robin’s restaurant will serve as this year’s setting for the annual HART (Homeless Animal Rescue Team) fundraiser, Wines, Pines & Felines, to be held from 5 to 8 p.m. May 3.

The event will spotlight a performance by Three Sopranos and a Piano. Along with other musical numbers, this popular group will present their rendition of Rossini’s “Buffo di due Gatti,” a humorous duet for two cats — sure to be the cat’s meow of their performance.

Jan Callner, Melanie Gruber and Mary Schwalbe, with Karen Johnson on piano, have been performing together for four years, and they joyfully acknowledge that their music is “sometimes serious, sometimes sassy, always soulful and sometimes a bit silly.”

The audience is in for a treat.

HART promises a gala evening, and the Sopranos are only the beginning. In addition to the musical performance, guests will enjoy a selection of Robin’s gourmet light cuisine and a hosted wine bar. Raffle prizes and a live auction, featuring auctioneer Jill Turnbow, will round out the festivities and highlight the primary purpose for the event: raising additional funding for HART.

A limited number of tickets are available and can be purchased at the Cambria Chamber of Commerce and the HART Shelter, 2638 Main St., Cambria, 805-927-7377.

Spring means blooming cats at HART

It’s springtime, and cats are blooming at the HART shelter. From mid-April through mid-May, HART is reducing its adoption fee to $11 for all cats and 7-months-or-older kittens. The adoption package includes spay/neuter and up-to-date vaccinations, together with a follow-up vet visit, bag of kibble, and HART ID tag and microchip. Now is the time to pick a HART “purrennial” posy that won’t fade or wilt, and even better, will provide a lifetime of love.

During any season, senior cats and senior people often make ideal companions. HART’s Noble Senior Companion program matches senior citizens (age 62 and older) with senior “citizens” (age 8 and older), a foolproof combination that merges a warm, welcoming home and a loving companionship — both seniors win. And the bonus? No adoption fee … ever.

HART, at 2638 Main St., is open for visitors Tuesday through Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m. To learn more about HART’s available cats, check out the website at www.slohart.org and click on “CLICK HERE FOR ADOPTIONS."

HART’s quarterly Pet Topics column is special to The Cambrian. This is a special bonus column; the regular Pet Topics column will appear in the May 5 edition.

Wines, Pines & Felines

The fourth annual Wines, Pines & Felines to benefit HART will be from 5 to 8 p.m. May 3 at Robin’s Restaurant garden, 4095 Burton Drive. Tickets are priced at $85 per person, and reserved tables are available for groups of four or eight. Tickets are available at HART, 2638 Main St., by calling 927-7377, and at the Cambria Chamber of Commerce.
