Watch out for deer
As we approach the start of another busy season in our village, maybe we could remind our visitors and locals too about the need to drive slowly and carefully along our roads and byways. There is an abundance of young deer around and, sadly, they don’t have much road sense. I know there are road signs posted in some areas to warn about the presence of deer, but it would not hurt to remind us that these trusting and too tame animals live among us.

Nonmembers are also welcome but have no voice in the election of officers. You are encouraged to attend to check out our vast number of clubs that are available to you to participate in. From lawn bowls to Jazzercize to table tennis to meditation and movies, we have something for everybody.

HART thanks Guardian Angels
The Homeless Animal Rescue Team (HART) Guardian Angel Committee works year-round to raise funds to pay extraordinary medical expenses for cats and kittens at the Cambria shelter. For the first nine months of this year, the veterinary expenses paid by the Guardian Angel fund, specifically for urgent and life-saving care, totaled more than $15,000.
The recent Guardian Angel Cause for Paws Raffle was the main fundraiser of the year, and was a great success as a result of the support of the community. Thank you to the Cambrian for helping us get the word out about the raffle. And special thanks to the following who donated the 56 wonderful raffle prizes that made the Cause for Paws Raffle a success: Artifacts, Amphora Gallery, Michael Miller, Ball & Skein & More, Brenda Gale, Cambria Animal Medical Center, Cambria Life Fitness, Lori Roselind, Cambria Veterinary Clinic, Carol Jean Attoe, Chambers Gallery, Creekside Inn, Cutruzzola Vineyards, Darlene Shubert, Diane Norton, Ed Kraemer, Foxlo Pottery, Gary Gall, Glenn Bennette, Guardian Angel Committee, Harmony Café, Jan Salem, Judy Lyon, Joanna Bobbitt, Lana Cochrun, Maddie Mae’s Pet Pantry, Maryann Grau, Marilyn Zahm, Megg McNamee, Michael Miller, Moonstones Gallery, Olallieberry Inn, Pacific Hair, Pat Willmott, Patricia Griffin Ceramic Studio, Richard Lee, Robin’s Restaurant, Shops at the Garden Shed, Soto’s True Earth Market, Stolo Winery, Suzan Vaughn, Talley Farms, The Place and Zan Barr.
The cats and kittens of HART appreciate your ongoing support of HART’s Guardian Angel Fund.

Water facility a threat to future
The biggest con job in the history of Cambria is the selling of a water treatment facility to a town of stable population with a history of adequate groundwater resources.
The CASGEM Interactive Map designates the groundwater elevation risk in Cambria as “very low risk.” Consequently, in the worst drought in California history, Cambrians conserved 43 percent of their groundwater resources and provided adequate water to residents and businesses, without any contribution from the highly expensive and unneeded “emergency” water treatment facility.
Supply and demand dictates the definition of a “water shortage,” and Cambria’s stable population means that the supply will meet the demands, given the proven history of smart conservation. Water has been the stranglehold on unrestricted and irresponsible growth in Cambria, and now the town council wants to provide unlimited water, so the restrictions on growth can disappear in favor of the money machine.
What is ironic in this sad episode of fearmongering about water, is that the new water facility is actually the biggest threat to the future of Cambria, since it will allow the virtual destruction of the town’s unique flavor of small, quiet and natural.
