Shoemakes host Luther Hughes, play Rodgers and Hart

The Famous Jazz Artist Series will resumes July 24 with a pair of concerts at the home of Charlie and Sandi Shoemake, 405 Cambridge St. in Cambria.

The Shoemakes will perform an afternoon of music from Richard Rodgers and Lawrenz Hart, with special guest bassist Luther Hughes, whose career spans more than 30 years.

Hughes currently leads three musical projects: the Cannonball-Coltrane Project, as well as Luther Hughes & Friends: Remembering the Nat King Cole Trio and H.E.R.K. He founded Primrose Lane Music in 2004 and teaches at Cal State Fullerton and Saddleback College.

The concert will feature a couple of surprise musical guests, and selections of wine, cheese and snacks will be available.
