Helena Hansen will perform a piano recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Cambria, 786 Arlington St.

The public is invited to attend at no charge.

The AFS-USA student from Denmark is studying voice and piano under Jan Callner while attending Coast Union High School. Her first lesson was Aug. 17, and Callner says “she has made incredible progress; she is so musically talented.”

Helena had a leading role in Coast Union’s spring musical, “The Little Mermaid,” in which she played the chatty seagull, Scuttle. During her time in Cambria, she is living with Randy and Mary Schwalbe.

Helena’s music studies are supported by a generous scholarship afforded her by the Cambria Chorale and Lions Club.

Hansen has attended Coast Unionthrough the AFS-USA exchange-student program, (formerly the American Field Service), a nonprofit leader in intercultural learning that offers international exchange programs in more than 40 countries through independent AFS organizations.

One or two host families are being sought soon for foreign students who want to attend Coast Union. For details on the international program, go to www.afsusa.org. People interested in being hosts for the visiting students should enquire this month by calling Sharon Bisso at 995-1432.
