Walk artfully this weekend in Cambria’s West Village

Cambria’s Saturday Art Stroll will be anything but pedestrian this month, thanks to … pedestrians.

Patrick Dennis, owner of Working Artist Studio and Patrick Gallery, will invite art stroll visitors to “Walk Artfully” in a designated crosswalk on Main Street: at Sheffield Street in Cambria’s West Village.

Visitors will be encouraged to film themselves walking in any exaggerated, lighthearted or artistic way. All submitted video clips will be uploaded to the Saturday Art Stroll’s public Facebook page.

The campaign is free and designed to support the growth of Cambria’s art community and to complement the Saturday Art Stroll, set for 5 to 8 p.m. March 5 this month. The campaign actually begins Friday, March 4, in advance of the Saturday Art Stroll.

Dennis said the “Walk Artfully” campaign is modeled on the “Silly Walk” sign at a crosswalk in Norway. Two signs will be installed on Main Street at Sheffield, encouraging walkers to “Walk Artfully.”

“Of course, that can mean almost anything. A silly hat? A brief tango? A little side kick or flick of the cane?” Dennis said. “In Orje, Norway, a village of about 2,000 people, a Swedish art collective converted a crosswalk into one that ‘requires’ a silly walk, something that Monty Python once suggested the British government had an entire ministry devoted to developing.”

The art stroll began in the fall as an effort among Cambria galleries, shops and restaurants to display a variety of painting, sculpture, glass work, jewelry and wearable art, inviting people in off the street to view it on the first Saturday evening of each month.
