The Bald Spots, a group of five singers who perform vintage rock ’n’ roll, will return to Cambria for a concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Joslyn Recreation Center, 950 Main St.

The concert will feature such 1950s classics as “At the Hop,” “Little Darlin,” “My Special Angel,” “Teenager in Love,” “Duke of Earl,” “Runaround Sue,” “The Wanderer” and “Teddy Bear.”

The group is made up of Dale “the Male” Wolff, Mike “the Bike” Suddarth, Craig “Who Makes Them Beg” Updegrove, Brian “the Lion” Lawler and Ty “the Guy” Green.

All five are members of the Vocal Arts Ensemble. They also performed in concert last September – then, as now, in a fundraiser for the Cambria Chorale and Joslyn Center.

The Bald Spots first performed as Gerry and the Pips at the original Vocal Arts Ensemble pops concert in 1991. The band was named for founder Gerry Carnahan, who moved out of the area a few years later, necessitating a name change.

They hit on the Bald Spots, a play on the popular vocal group the Ink Spots, who were active from the early 1930s to the early ’50s. The current lineup has been stable now for more than a decade.

Tickets to the Cambria show can only be purchased at Cambria Chanmber of Commerce, 767 Main St. or at the Joslyn Center. Checks should be made payable to Mark Kramer or Valerie Hopkins.
