Seabirds, snails and zoo animals will visit Cambria Library in next few weeks

Seabirds, snails and zoo animals will visit the Cambria Library as part of the county’s “On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!” summer program for youngsters of all ages.

The special, hands-on species activities will be offered at 3:30 p.m. on certain Thursdays.

On June 16, local wild birds will be featured in a hands-on science “Seabird Olympics” show for children ages 5 through 12. Preregistration is required; call 927-4336.

On June 23, children ages 8 to 14 can participate in the “Snail Olympics” that includes snail races and a smorgasbord for snails. Again, preregistration is required.

Then on July 7, animals from the Charles Paddock Zoo will visit library patrons of all ages at the library, in a presentation that explains how the animals are kept safe and healthy.

Also, free afternoon snacks will be provided for anyone 18 and younger on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday afternoons for six weeks this summer, from 2:30 to 3 p.m. from June 14 to July 21 at the library. The snacks are provided in collaboration with the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County.
