The Central Coast Writers Contest is accepting entries in its annual contest through July 15 in conjunction with the 32nd annual Central Coast Writers Contest.
Each entry must reflect the theme “The Final Word.” Categories are flash fiction (500 words or fewer), short fiction (1,000 to 1,200 words) and poetry up to 40 lines. A new category this year is screenwriting, for which participants should submit an original short screenplay up to 20 pages long.
Short fiction, screenwriting and poetry awards will be $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $100 for third place. The flash fiction first-place entry will receive $500, with $100 for second place and $50 for third place.
The deadline to enter is midnight on July 15.
A panel that includes award-winning authors, publishers, writing teachers and professors will conduct blind judging. For details and submission guidelines, visit CCWritersContest.com.
The Central Coast Writers Conference runs from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 at Cuesta College. The theme is “Word by Word.” A book and author fair held in conjunction with the conference will be offered at Mission Plaza in downtown San Luis Obispo.
