Highway 1 reopens at night in north SLO County in construction area
No further overnight closures are planned as construction continues on the Elephant Trunk retaining wall on Highway 1 near the San Luis Obispo/Monterey county line, Caltrans reports.
Daytime work continues to shore up the cliff in an area known for major slides, with workers next week scheduled to add reinforcing steel beams.
Work is being done from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, when motorists can expect to encounter a one-way reversing traffic signal, causing delays of 5 to 10 minutes. Local businesses will remain open during the closure.
John Madonna Construction of San Luis Obispo is the contractor on the $9.5 million project, which is slated for completion in winter 2016-17.
