Cooper joins Cambria’s PROS Commission

New member Stanley Cooper has joined Cambria’s parks commission, based on unanimous confirmation of his appointment by community services district directors Feb. 18.

The world traveler and retired teacher replaces Ben Bouldin, former member of the Cambria Community Services District Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission (PROS). Bouldin’s four-year term (now Cooper’s) expires Oct. 23, 2018.

The other four current commission members are Chairman Steve Kniffen, Joyce Renshaw, Tim Roche and Adolph Atencio.

According to the PROS bylaws, the CSD board also can appoint up to three alternate members recommended by the commission. Those alternates may substitute for absent members at the request of the chair.

New alternate members unanimously approved Feb. 18 by CSD directors are Kermit Johansson, a retired state-registered landscape architect, including for the USDA Forest Service for 30 years, and Teri Lord, a dedicated community volunteer who was the Pinedorado parade marshal in 2013.

The commission was established in 1994 as a volunteer community organization to advise the CSD board on policy issues relating to parks, recreation and open space needs in Cambria. PROS participated in the acquisition and management planning process for the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve and other key projects.

The commission meets at 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday of the month at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1000 Main St.

The next meeting is March 1, and items on that agenda include introducing the new member and alternates, learning more about California’s two-year plan for “Transforming State Parks by Implementing Positive Change,” receiving updates on permits for the East Ranch park improvements, and discussing/considering the commissioners’ workshop and trails update.
